The National Development Planning System (NPDS) constitutes a unified procedure of the long term, mid term and annual development planning which is organized both by government and the community at national and regional levels as stipulated in Law No.25 Year 2004 of NDPS. In this regard, the State Minister of National Development Planning / Head of National Development Planning Agency is in charge of designing the Long Term Development Planning (LTDP), Mid Term Development Planning (MTDP), and the Annual Development Planning or the Government Work Plan (GWP)

LTDP which describes the vision, mission, and direction of the national development in 20 years is essentially an elaboration of the goal the Indonesian government establishment as stated in Preamble of Constitution 1945 (UUD 1945).

To complete the LTDP document which contains the broad guidelines of the development planning for the next period of 20 years, it is necessary to have a picture of population size at the present and in the next 20 years. The projection also include the population parameter, such as the total fertility rate (TFR), and life expectancy, as well as the population age structure, at national and regional levels.

This book is a result of collabortive efforts of Bappenas, BPS, UNFPA, and demography experts. The main purpose in publishing "Proyeksi Penduduk Indonesia 2000-2025" (Indonesia Population Projection 2000-2025) is to support the development planning for the years to come both at national and regional levels.

Conclusively, we are grateful for the support provided by those who have helped throughout the entire process of drafting of this book.

The publication of this book is dedicated to all segments of the society : government, business, universities, non-government organizations and civil societies. Criticism and inputs are welcome in order to enhance this compilation of the population projection.
