Indonesian age structure is still considered young, even though from previous census results and surveys the youth population proportion shows a tendency to decrease. Population age order is shown in Table 3.3 until Table 3.5 shows the same patterns. The assumption of fertility and mortality rates decreasing as stated above greatly influence the population age structure. Child proportions aged 0-14 years old decrease from 30,7 percent in year 2000 to 22,8 percent in year 2025 (Table 3.3).

As those in working age, 15-64 years old increase from 64,6 percent to 68,7 percent, from 2000 to 2035 period (Table 3.4) and those who are 65 years old and above increase from 4,7 percent to 8,5 percent (Table 3.5). This structure change causes dependency ratio to fall from 54,70 percent in year 2000 to 45,50 percent in year 2025. The decrease of dependency ratio shows the lack of economical burden for population in productive age (work age) that supports those who are in unproductive age.
